Amsler Gets First Taste Of BCHL Action

Midget Prep forward Nick Amsler has played his first game in the BCHL.  The Coquitlam Express called him up last weekend for their Sunday afternoon tilt versus the Victoria Grizzlies. Coquitlam went on to win the game 6-2.

Amsler admitted to feeling extremely nervous heading into the rink, but said the players and coaching staff were easy to talk to and really helped him to feel comfortable.

“Their coach, Jason Fortier, introduced himself right away and made me not as stressed as I was.  After we won, the team was inclusive with me as an AP and were very professional,” he said.

As for the game itself, Amsler said he was able to shake off most of the nerves on his first shift.  “I don’t think all of them ever went away, but I did get more comfortable as the game went on.”

The Midget Prep Lion also noted some of the major differences at the BCHL level, most notably the speed of the game.

“You have to make plays so much quicker and think the game at such a faster pace.  Another major difference was the strength of the players.  They are a lot harder on the puck which makes it difficult to get away from your man.”

Amsler’s debut with the Express was made extra memorable for him on the ride home.

“Coach Fortier gave me a very generous compliment.  He texted me saying, ‘good game kid….played very well.’  That was very positive feedback that I will remember.”

Congratulations, Nick on this great milestone in your hockey development!
