Stankoven Takes Top Honours In Saskatoon

"It means a lot and I’m very grateful because I know there’s many other skilled players out there that could have won it as well.” — Logan Stankoven

Bantam Prep forward Logan Stankoven turned heads last week at the WHL/CSSHL Saskatoon Showcase.  With 13 points in just four games, Stankoven was recognized with three Player of the Game honours and was named MVP of the Showcase.  It was a performance that he was quick to attribute to his teammates.

“The chemistry with my linemates and the way we made smart plays between each other was a big part of it,” said Stankoven.  “Also, the way our team played with grit and passion throughout the Showcase was what led to the team’s success.”

Yale went 3-1 over the four-game stretch, outscoring their opponents 21-10.  Stankoven played on a line with Jake Chiasson and Zac Funk and together they combined for a massive 33 points.  It’s numbers that aren’t lost on Stankoven after being named MVP.

“It means a lot and I’m very grateful because I know there’s many other skilled players out there that could have won it as well,” Stankoven said.  “At the same time though, there is lots of room for improvement.  You can’t get too high when good things come, and you can’t get too low when bad things come around.”

The Kamloops native will be taking that attitude into next week as the team gears up for the big Pat Quinn Classic.

“Right now I’m focused on the Pat Quinn and coming out of there as champions.  After that, my goals for the new year are obviously winning a tough John Reid Tournament and eventually building up for the CSSHL playoffs.”

Logan Stankoven is currently fourth in league scoring under the Bantam Prep Division with 46 points in 16 games played.  It includes 12 multi-goal games.  He has also recorded multiple points in all but two games played this season.
